Robert Half Legal Project Attorneys Help Law Firm Turn Document Review Into Profit

Business Situation
Our client is a law firm that operates six offices with over 90 attorneys on staff. They specialize in civil and criminal law at both the state and federal level. Recently, the client served as outside counsel for a legal malpractice case, which required a large amount of document review (over 2,000 boxes) as part of the discovery process – and they didn't have the staff resources needed. Initially, the client staffed the project with law clerks. Later, to increase productivity, they changed their approach and hired project attorneys. Robert Half Legal was called in to provide the solution to the challenge.

Project Scope
The project consisted of reviewing thousands of paper and electronic documents over a seven-month period. Originally, project attorneys were hired from Robert Half Legal. When additional project attorneys were needed, both Robert Half Legal and non-Robert Half employees were hired. Attorneys were divided into teams – one for paper document review and the other for electronic document review. Our client states, "About one-third of the way through the process, it became clear to us that the Robert Half Legal project attorneys were better suited for the project." When it was time to replace or add project attorneys, the client felt secure enough in the Robert Half Legal account executive's industry knowledge that they relied solely on his recommendations and did not have to take the time to interview each candidate themselves. In all, the 15 Robert Half Legal project attorneys handled the complete document review process, while some also handled coding, legal research and writing, and the summarizing of deposition documents.
